How to Choose Between Culinary Schools
Making the decision to attend culinary arts school is one that can have an impact on your future for years to come. Therefore, it is not something to be taken lightly. Just as you would choose a college or university with great care, you should choose a culinary lessons school the same way. Culinary cooking usually refers to what you will find in five star restaurants and at fancy resorts and hotels. There are even chefs who work on luxurious cruise ships and get to see the world while they do their job.
The type of culinary classes you will be taking depends upon which school you attend and what course you sign up for. There are all kinds of different ones to choose from, for example you could train to be a head chef, a pastry chef, or even a restaurant owner. Owning a restaurant requires you to have a firm grasp on both the kitchen and the office. For this you will be taking both cooking classes and business classes. There are courses for those who want to go into the resort or hotel business as a chef as well. This can be a lucrative opportunity depending on where you get a job.
There are two schools that boast very good reputations and they are Le Cordon Bleu and The Art Institute Culinary School. Both have locations all over the country so there may be one near you. The difference between them is that Le Cordon Bleu has its roots in fine French cooking, although this is not all they teach these days. Either culinary school is going to look fantastic on your resume and will give you the education you need to enter this exciting career field. If you are undecided there are some ways to decide between the two as well as any other schools on your list.
First, look at where the culinary schools are located. While some people are up for the adventure of traveling for their education, others want to stay close to home. This is a personal choice that varies from student to student. Tuition costs are another factor, you may find one program is less expensive than another. Many schools do have financial aid, scholarships and other programs for students who need assistance. The type of programs offered is yet another way you can select between schools if you are having trouble. Make a list of pros and cons for each school, which can help you see things more clearly as advantages and disadvantages are written out in black and white.
